Show BARS LET DOV"X. Young men between the ages of 21 and "1 who have some slight physical ' defect which debars them from active j military service in the field are to be given a chance to "do their bit" in some other capacity during the war, i according to the latest regulations is-j is-j sued by Provost Marshal General Crowder. A large number of such men ; have repcr.tcdly tried to enlist in the army, but have been turned down by the government surgeons. A few of these intensely patriotic young American Amer-ican citizens succeeded in literally forcing their way into one or another of the non-fighting branches of the service- and we feel sure that many others will be I'lad to know that thev i can and will be of some use to their ! native land while the great struggle continue;. It is quite possible that most of these men could and would : fight we!!, but there is no necessity for sending them forward while there are : so' many lusty registrants in class one ; I who are in every way fitted to take up ; ! arms and defend the flag against any and all comers. It is a fine thing to be I physically perfect when the manhood of ' the country is called to the colors and a youth who is not thrilled with pride 1 and eager to don a uniform when he is thus summoned lacks the first prin- j jeiples of patriotism and is anything but : a joy and comfort to his parents. j |
