Show WILSON'S FIGHTING ! . SPIK MSEC Summons Senators and Declares De-clares He Will Not Compromise Com-promise on Bills. WASHINGTON, Feb. 1. In emphasizing emphasiz-ing his opposition to the senate military committee's bills for a war cabinet and a munitions director, President Wilson urged upon another group of Democratic senators called to the White house today the necessity of avoiding, as far. as possible, pos-sible, agitation in congress that might encourage the enemy and give the impression im-pression of discord. The president, according to those attending at-tending the conference, in forceful fashion fash-ion reiterated his objections to the proposed pro-posed legislation and declared he would not consider a compromise on them. He said both bills were obnoxious to him, both because they were unnecessary and because they would embarrass and deprive de-prive him of authority in prosecution of the war. Although all of the senators present were said to be in entire accord with the president's position and confident that legislation is certain of defeat, thev said Senator Hitchcock, Democrat, and Wads-worth, Wads-worth, Republican, were plannins speeches early next week in support of the bills and could not be stopped under the senate rules.
