The city board of health today adopted additional measures for fighting the influenza epidemic. Notice No-tice was given to the special and regular police officers to start In the morning arresting ar-resting violators of the regulations. The health board reported fifty-seven new cases and four deaths. Special Inspectors for the health board reported tonight that they had only found ten merchants complying with the order to have their clerks wear masks. The notice was issued by the inspectors that If masks are not supplied to the clerks to-jnorrow to-jnorrow that there will be immediate arrests ar-rests ordered. The street cars only carry the specified speci-fied number of passengers and additional cars are provided during tho rush hours. The company has been hit hard among Its employees, but Is managing to continue con-tinue the service, although they have had to use some officials to do so. Assistant As-sistant Trainmaster G. W. Mills of the city has been working In capacity as conductor, motorman, ambulance driver and first aid doctor to employees whenever when-ever they are taken sick. If a man says he has the symptoms of the Influenza Mr. . Mills Immediately sends him homo and takes his "run" until an extra mail can bo summoned. Following the advice of Dr. W. S. Harrison Har-rison of the federal public health service, the city has secured the high school and Is fitting it up to accommodate Influenza patients. The cots and supplies will come from Forft Douglas. It is the intention of the health authorities to send all Influenza Influ-enza cases to the hospitals as fast as they are found. Sessions of the district court have been continued to December 9, by an order of District Judges A. W. Agee and A. E. Pratt, The deaths reported today were as follows: fol-lows: Gertrude Louise Richardson, 3 years of age, daughter of Ezra H. and Gertrude Knight Richardson, who died late yesterday yester-day at the family residence, 26B0 Barlow I avenue. She Is survived by her parents j and one brother. Salt Lake, died at a local hospital after j an Illness of one week. The body was 1 removed to tho Larkln chapel to he prepared pre-pared for burial. Peter Vernieuwe, 54 years of age, died at 2 o'clock this morning at Lincoln Lin-coln avenue, after four days' Illness of tho Influenza, The widow and a daughter daugh-ter survive. The body was removed to the J.indquist chapel pending1 the funeral arrangements. Peter Daiiey Brown, 4S years of egc, of Wellsvllle, Utah, died at a local hospital hos-pital at 5:30 o'clock this morning. The widow and several children, brothers and sisters survive. The body was removed to Lindqnlst's chapel to be prepared for the funeral, which will be held in Logan. |
