It is the announced plan of the department depart-ment to discharge those who desire Inline-i Inline-i d'ate release as quickly as possible, provided pro-vided their services In the work In which . they are now engaged can be spared at the time, without inconvenience. The second class to bo handled is that com-1 com-1 posed of those who desire to go into the ! reserve corps and the last to be con-I con-I sidered will be those who desire to remain re-main permanently in the army work.- All this information will have to be gathered together and compiled by the war department to determine the strength of each class and just what men can lie counted upon for reorganization of the permanent establishment. It la expected that as soon as this compilation and classification can be completed (he actual work of discharge of officers will commence. The demobilization of enlisted men Is well under way at all the large camps land posts In this country and it is re-1 re-1 ported that about 000 a day are being mustered out and sent away from Camp , Funston. i Thus far no one has been mustered out ! of the service at Fort Douglas and no officers have been released, but tho preliminary pre-liminary steps toward this end are now being taken Un the way of gathering Information In-formation as to how many men are on duty there who ore entitled to release ! if they desire it. Pursuant to instructions from the war ; department the matter was submitted to j the officers of the hospital at a staff meeting yesterday and they were not i -! fied to signify their desires in the matter mat-ter of continuing or leaving the service. As soon as this information is ga there d it will be forwarded to the war department. depart-ment. In view of the fact that practically all of the officers at Fort Douglas are emergent';' emer-gent';' period men it is considered likely that the staffs of tiie various organizations organiza-tions there may be chanced considerably within the next few months. The natural procrss of pot-war readjustment would bring this about. As to when such changes will lie made, however,-there is no information infor-mation available j?t this time, though advice ad-vice on the subject may be received from the, surgeon general's office at any time now. |
