Show German Soldiers Boasting of War Five Years Hence By Universal Service. PAEIS, Nov. 29. "Au re voir; we'll be back in five years," was the parting assertion of German Ger-man officers to the inhabitants of Strassburg. Many Germans were still extremely boastful as they left the city, and spoko of a now war which they said was sure to come, with Germany better prepared eco-aomically eco-aomically to withstand a blockade. The citizens of Strassburg consequently conse-quently have petitioned the allies to appoint a commission f or permanent control of the German manufacture of arms and munitions, with a view to precluding the possibility of preparations for a new war. Allied and American representatives representa-tives here are keeping a close watch mi developments in Germany. Ex-secretary Ex-secretary Grew of the United States embassy in Berlin is known to be well informed of what is going on beyond the Ehine, and he is closely advising Colonel House. By the time President Wilson arrives the diplomatic diplo-matic "advance workers" here are expected to have a full and clear statment of the German situation for him. |
