Show KAIMSICiS " PROVE THEIR LOYALTY New Haven Convention Passes Resolutions Fixing Status of Alien Members. Frank H. Westover, Utah delegate to the recent national convention of the American Federation of Musicians at New Haven, Conn., reports a spirit of high patriotism at the meeting, according accord-ing to a report submitted to Secretary Lorenzo Sharp and printed in bulletin No. 6, issued by local union No. 104. Mr. Westover says" that not only did the convention fix the status of alien members, mem-bers, but provided that the organization shall pay all dues of men of the profession pro-fession who are enlisted in fhe service of the United States. By unanimous rising vote the convention con-vention delegates adopted the following resolutions: Local secretaries shall compile a list of alien members, and notify them of the time of their probation, proba-tion, or the date when they must complete their naturalization; when issuing a transfer card to an alien -member, the local secretary shall stamp such card in red ink, with the word "alien," together with the date when naturalization must be completed. Failure to fulfill this section shall subject secretaries secre-taries to a fine of $o for each of-, of-, fense. In the matter of members of the A. F. of M. joining the military or naval forces of the United States, the following follow-ing was offered: Whereas, Many members of the A. F. of M. have enlisted in the service of the United States and Canada in the present world-wide war, either in the military or navy; be it, therefore, Resolved, That the names of such members be retained upon the records rec-ords of their respective locals, with all dues and assessments marked "Paid in Full" until such time as they shall receive their honorable discharge from said service; provided, pro-vided, however, that all the rights arising under the benevolent lines of the organization shall be deemed matter of local regulation. So far fifteen members of the local union have enlisted in the regular army service. They are James O. Maxev, George Klink. W. V. Done, Charles G. Billmeyer, Eichard B. Wilson, Alma McClellan, Harold Sharp, Keith Barnes, William Lym, Clarence J. Hawkins, Lester Hinchcliff, Lon Reese, Henry Ellertson, Vaughn Clayton, Clarence M. Burton. With reference to unions maintaining maintain-ing enlisted members within benefit provisions, pro-visions, Thomas A. Nicholl, editor of the local Bulletin, says: There has been considerable discussion dis-cussion about continuing enlisted members in benefits. This is a big question the- writer's opinion is that nothing is too good for these boys; that they are. or will be, fighting for us all, and, to his mind, there is but one answer to the question ques-tion give them the benefit, andj if need be, let us raise and set aside a sum for this purpose. |
