THE first four men drawn in the selective draft in Salt Lake City for Uncle aris"nerrnatioual army were Ulster M. Remy, Cnr-tice Cnr-tice Wright "lVr f'nrl yj-i'fi"'' Frederick Oscar Smith. True to the estimate of the war department de-partment that 50 per cent of the selec-tives selec-tives would prove to bo exempt, two of these four claim exemption and two are ready and willing to go when called. "I am glad I was chosen to be among the first to go, as it is my duty," is the statement of Lester M. Remy, second sec-ond district, one of the first four men to be drawn in the selective draft in Salt Lake. Mr. Kemy, who lives at 803 West First South street, is single and does not claim exemption. Remy ia 24 yeara old and is a motorman for the Bamberger Bam-berger electric line. Curtice Wright Allen, third district, 78 K street, is a married man, but was divorced in 1917, so is regarded as single. His mother claims exemption for him, as he is subject to lapses of memory since he was hurt in an auto accident. Allen is 27 years of age and an electrician by trade. Carl Nyman, fourth district, 828 East Fifth South street, is singlo and does not claim exemption. lie has two brothers who can support their mother. Nyman is in the employ of tho interstate inter-state commerce commission and stationed sta-tioned at Seattle, Wash. He applied for enlistment as corporal in t lie topo-graphicdivisiou topo-graphicdivisiou of the engineers' corps. Ife is a graduate of tho Vniversity of Utah in and was prominent in ath letics there. Nyman is 'Jit years of age. Frederick Oscar Smith, first district, 624 South Fourth -East street, although singlo, claims exemption because of the fact that he is the sole support of i his aged mother. Smith is 25 vears of i age and is by occupation a cook. |
