Show II SEMI W BILL BACK TO LAWMAKERS Alleged Technical Error in Handling the Measure I3 Pointed Out. What appears to be a technical error in the handling of the Young prohibition biil may be responsible for the return of the measure to the legislature for further action. Governor Simon Bamberger has addressed a letter to the lower house calling call-ing attention to the matter and will be governed entirely by the pleasure of that body as to further disposition of the bill. When the bill was recalled 'by the lower house last week for reconsideration that body voted on two proposed amendments to the measure and tnen returned it to the governor without placing the bill again on finaJ passage. W ithout know) - ! ed'-'o of the action 01" the house other than liiat the bill was returned without change, the governor signed the measure and transmitted it to the secretary- of state. The validity of the measure has been questioned since and the governor yesterday yes-terday decided to inform the legislature as to the point in question and leave the matter in the hands of the lawmakers. In his letter the governor does not attempt to pass upon the merits of the suggested possibility of the measure being invalid, and gives assurance that he is eager to co-operate In any effort suggested to clarify the situation. |
