Spirited contest over house bill Xo. 25, by Argyle, providing for the licensing licens-ing of chiropractors in Utah and creating creat-ing a separate board of examiners for them, is expected in the house of representatives repre-sentatives today when the jidioiary committee com-mittee makes a report on the bill". It lias been announced that a majority, report against passage of the measure-and measure-and a minority report in favor of it will be submitted." Just what the fate of the bill will be is difficult to guess, as the sentiment among the house members is about evenly divided. The majority report of the committee is against lhe bill on the ground that there should be no separate board of exam in e for this particular class of healers It is argued by the committee that if these healers pretend to be able to heal the sick they' should pass the same examination in anatomy and chemistry chem-istry and kindred subjects that a regular prysician does, and that there is no necessity for creating a separate board of examiners for them. The minority takes the stand that tho subjects in which the chiropractor 1 should be proficient have nothing in common with those of the regular phy- . sician, that the standards required by j the board of medical examiners are not ! proper to be required in the eases of chiropractors, and that, therefore, there should be a separate, board of examiners for the chiropractors. There has been much lobbying both for and against the chiropractic bill with the members of the house, and it is expected that when the committee report re-port is presented today there will be a spirited fight, as the adverse report of the committee, under the rules of the house, throws the entire matter before the house for consideration on the merits of the measure. If the majority adverse report should be adopted this will kill the bill and end it. But should the minority report be adopted, or the majority report be rejected, even without adoption of the minority report, the bill will then go on the calendar for further consideration in regular order. The house will meet this morning and this afternoon to consider the grist of business before it. |
