WITH six of seven children, four of thirty-six grandchildren and three of twenty-four great-grandchildren present, Mrs. Ann MaeFarland Erskine, one ot the oxcart pioneers of Utah, celebrated her ninety-second .birthday Sunday at the residence of her son, Peter Erskine, 566 Seventh avenue. Although past four score and ten, Mrs. Erslune is hale and hearty and thoroughly enjoyed the birthday dinner and informal reception given in her honor by her descendants. Only the members of the family were present, and not aJl of them were able to be there owing to the fact that a number of thera are not in the city. The accompanying- picture shows four generations of "the family Mrs. Er-skinet Er-skinet her eldest son, Peter Erskine; his son, Archie Erskine, and his daughter, daugh-ter, Virginia Erslune, who is aged 1 year and S months and who is the youngest of the twenty-four greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. The eldest of the greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren is Dorothy Hurd, daughter daugh-ter of Mr, and Mrs. Walter Hurd of this city, who iB 10 years of age. Mrs. Erskine was born an Largs, Scotland, ninety-two years ago and came to Utah in 1S61 as a convert to the Mormon church. She made the trip across the plains in an oxcart company under the command of Apostle George Teasdale. She has resided here since that time. To Mrs. Erskine were born seven children, five boys and two girls. All of these were present at the birthday celebration, with exception of one son, who is now out of the state. There was no formal programme for the birthday celebration outside of a birthday dinner, following which the descendants present spent the evening in social enjoyment. Mrs. Erskine recounted re-counted to her children some of the experiences ex-periences of her earlier years. |
