Show DANCING VIOLATES A. C. TRAINING RULE Inside History of Aggie Award Situation Situa-tion Proves 'Transgressions of Little Consequence. Special to "The Tribune. LOGAN, Dec. IS. A great deal of discussion dis-cussion has been indulged in with regard to the awarding of letters to the Utah Aggie football men, and some false reports re-ports have got abroad. It was announced that four men would receive awards, and later it was stated that only two men, Johnson and Mohr, would be given sweaters, sweat-ers, as they were the only ones who had adhered strictly to the training rules adopted by Coach J. W. Watson. Rumors were spread that the reason all the players did not receive letters was because of a general celebration held just prior to the Thanksgiving day game, and that every player except the two named participated. Investigation shows that this has no foun- j dation in fact, and Coach Watson and j otiier men connected with the team haves stamped the report as an absolute falsehood. false-hood. During the first week of football practice prac-tice at the college, in September. Coach Watson laid before the men certain rules, and failure to live up to them would mean suspension, the coach announced. Among other things, t he football men were not to indulge in dancing during the playing season. A week before the Thanksgiving day game with Idaho the coach found one of the players in the ant of stepping lightly light-ly with a co-ed and informed him that his services were no longer needed, as he had violated the rules. Upon further investigation, investi-gation, a peculiar coincidence was discovered discov-ered every man except four had danced one dance each during the training season. sea-son. A crisis developed, and was met when the players and coach agreed that the men should be deprived of awards for their work rather than -to disband the team. Two of the four players who had been ad- i judged innocent became conscience-strick- i en and told how they had cleverly violated j the dancing rule and got away with it. Outside of this violation of the law. all I the players adhered strictly to the rules, I and are now offended when the report is ! spread broadcast that they had been hold- j ing parties and celebrations during the season. Every player is very much in fa- I vor of the strict discipline of Coach Wat- ! son an dhas promised to obey every law I to the letter next year. |
