SMOOT TO BE PROVO POSTMASTER Announcement Comes From Washington That Selection Selec-tion Has Been Made. Special to The Tribune. PROVO, Dec. IS. Telegraphic advices received here today from Washington, D. C, announce that A. O. Smoot of this city -k been named postmaster of the Provo postoffice, vice James Clove, removed. re-moved. For a time Mr. Smoot and J. C. Anderson were rivals for the position, but they got together on the matter with the result tha,t Mr. Smoot was named. Mr. Smoot, who was born in Provo, is a livestock man. He is 37 years of age. He Is a nephew of Senator Reed Smoot, but Mr. Smoot has always been a stanch Democrat, as was his father and grandfather, the late President A. O. Smoot. He lias been active in party political work locally. Mr. Smoot has been the representative of the International Correspondence school for fourten years and has been a member of the Provo city board of education- for eight years. He is a breeder and importer of Jersey cattle and is an enthusiast in this line. Some of the best Jersey stock in the state has been brought in or bred by Mr. Smoot. He la married and has four children living. |
