Show SALT LAKE SECURES , RATE COffiSilS At the closing of the inter-mountain rate hearing at Spokane, under the supervision su-pervision of the interstate commerce commission, the announcement was made that the commodity rates between Salt Lake and the Pacific coast, which are now higher from this point than from Denver, are to he reduced on a . par with the latter city. According to Hal W. Prickelt of the Traffic Service Bureau Bu-reau of Utah, who returned yesterday from Spokane, this concession is of considerable con-siderable importance to the shipping interests in-terests of this city. "For example, the rate on canned goods from the Atlantic seaboard to the Pacific coast is 75 cents a hundred, with a rate of $1.10 to Salt Lake from the Atlantic coast. "Tlie rate from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic on the same commodity is but fii!1'-! cents a hundred pounds not only to the coast points, but to Pittsburg Pitts-burg and o titer intermediate points. If one is water-compelled, why not the other? The traffic is between the 'same points. This point the railroads could not get away from and could not explain satisfactorily." |
