Show LLOYD-GEORGE MADE SECRETARY OF WAR LONDON, July 6. David Lloyd-George Lloyd-George today was appointed secretary of state for war, the post of the late Lord Kitchener. Earl Derby, author of tho successful recruiting scheme, was named to succeed the. Hon. H. J. Tennant as Under-Secretary of state for war. Sir Edward Grey, minister of foreign affairs, was elevated to the peerage. The press bureau tonight issued the following follow-ing official announcement : "Hie majesty, the king, has been pleased to approve the appointment of David Lloyd-George to be secretary of state for war. ' ' The elevation of Sir Edward Grey to the peerage has been expected for some time. Neither did the appointment of David Lloyd-George, former minister of munitions, mu-nitions, to the post of Lord Kitchener create any surprise. The way was paved when Edwin Samuel Montagu, chancellor chancel-lor of the duchy of Lancaster, was appointed ap-pointed to succe'ed Mr. Lloyd-George as minister of munitions yesterday. |
