Show WOMAN IS DIG FROiyiL BUST ; Explosion in Dwelling at Eureka Threatens Downtown Down-town for a Time. Special to The Tribune. ECREKA. July 12. Mrs. Lee Mackay was fatally injured In an explosion of gasoline that destroyed her home and almost resulted in a disastrous downtown down-town fire shortly after 5 o'clock this afternoon. aft-ernoon. Mrs. Mackay was cleaning clothes and it is thought that the extreme heat of the room resulted in the explosion of the gasoline. Mr. Mackay was in another part of the hone ut L he time of the explosion and helped his wife to a place of safety, but was unable to save a particle of the household furniture. It is thought thai several hundred dollars in currency was lost in tho blazo that destroyed the Mackav home. The dwelling adjoined on one side the offices of the Bullion Beck -Mining company com-pany and on the other the home of C. C. Doty, mine superintendent. The mine- office was partially destroyed by the fire, but not before all' furniture and documents were removed to a place of safety. The Doty home was likewise cleared, but through the quick action of the local fire department was uninjured save by the streams of water. The total loss was estimated tonight at $1500. Mrs. Mackay was attended by three local physicians, all of whom said she had no chance for recovery. |
