Show W. N. PETTEH IS BROUGKT TO FROM Suggested as School Super- intendent to Relieve the Board of Difficulty. Special to Tlie Tribune. OGDI5.V, .Inly 12. A possible solution of the difficulties encountered by the board of education as a result of the resignation last night of John Girdler, selected to succeed John JX. Mills as superintendent, was offered by nearly a score of Ogden citizens today who advocated ad-vocated the selection of W. X. Petter-son, Petter-son, superintendent of the Weber county public schools, to fill the vacancy Up to the present time the suggestions regarding Mr. Petterson have been un- h officially made to individual members j of the city board. At least, two of the five of the board expressed themselves today as favorably impressed with the suggestion and it is considered probable that the proposition propo-sition will receive the united consideration considera-tion of the educational body at its meeting meet-ing next Friday night. Due to the fact that a majority of available candidates for the position of superintendent have signed contracts for the coming school vear, those who favor the selection of Mr. Petterson feel that a better choice a could not be made. Those who have suggested his name r to board members contend that under his stewardship of the Weber county Bchools during the past eight years that system has progressed from a non-consolidated system with a few small school houses to "a compact, consolidated organization or-ganization with modern schools and progressive educational methods in every district of the county. The Weber county school system is accorded a high place" in the list of modern country school organizations of the west and is often visited by educators from other states. |
