Show ROCHESTER STRIKE SHOWS IMPROVEMENT Friedman Tunnel Opens Ore in Quartz Vein Eight Feet Thick. Special to The Tribune. ROCIIK.STEK, Mev., Nov. 20. The great strike of ore in the Friedman tunnel in Rochester hill -which was reported re-ported a few days ago at a point 1342 ieet from the portal, has been constantly increasing in magnitude, and unquestionable' unques-tionable' assumes an importance rarely equaled in western mining. When last reported last night the bore had gone through forty live feet of vein matter ' and was Hearing a richer zone which ' indicated the probable presence of the footwall. . As officially reported bv L. A. Fried- man of the Rochestetr Mines company . in a letter going ont to stockholders todav, the vein may be properly termed ' a contact vein with" an andosite footwall 1 ! and rhvolite hanging wall lying almost ' flat, the tunnel passed through this 1 for twenty-one feet, which is all very 1 highly mineralized nmtter, but tarries values only irom $1 to $o a ton. At this point a very good quartz vein was j encountered which stands as near as can 1 be told at this time at an angle of about ' forty-five degrees and is from eight to ten 'feet in width, with values ranging from 46 to $20 a ton. The last sample i taken yesterdav, and which was taken . very conservatively across the greater ' portion of the vein gave returns of ' j $7.20 in gold and $5.45 in silver. Presi- ; dent Friedman said: I am satisfied that the average of ; this vein will yield ore of much bet- ; ' ter grade, as we do not fignre that ; we cut it in the ore shoot, judging 1 i from the rake of our ore shoots j above. I ; After passing through this vein, : , the tunnel again advanced through I this contact for a distance of fifteen I feet and the face of the tunnel is j coming into very good-loooking i quartz, of which there are no assays as yet. 1 In our opinion this is by far the most important discovery ever made in Rochester hill, as the finding of this vein in addition to the vein which we cut at the 1017 point ab-' ab-' solutely demonstrates the deep- 3 seated'ore bodies of Rochester, and : in our opinion makes the Rochester as big a gold-silver mine, if not the biggest, in the state of Nevada. The tunnel is to be forced ahead to the 1500-foot point, after which they will raise to connect with the ore bodies . ; between 400 and 6CM1 feet below the , bottom of the present winzes. Winze SOI. near the 400-foot level, is in twen-I twen-I ty-six feet of excellent ore, running ; from 10 to 30, with occasional assavs of SfiO to $90. Winze 302 is in ten feet of clean ore nn the same vein of about the same value. The company is opening up the west vein in toe Old Four J "block, known ; as block 3, approximately 4ihj feet north if "Winze 301, giving five feet of from , I 410 to $36 ore. The west vein is also being opened in the old (.odd lease in bloct 2 with excellent results. On account of the immense tonnage that is now being opened, plans are announced an-nounced for increasing the capacitv of the mill. Good streams of water have been purchasd in Relief and Buffalo canyons, making it accessary to pipe but 1500 feet to connect with' the present pres-ent line. |
