Nov. 20 The pro-1 pro-1 ; ranime of official entertainments at 'he White House, whu-h will be re-' re-' ' imed this winter after a lapse of a ear. was announced tonight. The pro-ramme pro-ramme shows several changes from that ! , f previous Tears, due mostly to the ' iuiopean war. The series ot dinners 1 ml receptions will not begin until Jan-j Jan-j : ary 7, after the marriage of President Tiison to Mrs. Norman Gait, and the ! eir mistress of the White House will ! ike her place at all of them. I The big New Year reception, at Inch presidents in past years have been 'customed to receive diplomats, officials J i f the navr and army, members of many ' atriotic organizations and all citizens 1 ; h,i presented themselves, will be omit- 1 -d as it has been for the last two years. ' he president and Mrs. Gait probably f . ill be away on their honeymoon on j i tat day. 1 !hanges in Programme. a The principal changes in the pro- , -amme this year will be the cancelling ( 1 ' the diplomatic reception and the sub- 1 itntion of two diplomatic dinners for t 1 if one nsuallv held. This departure ( as decided upon because of the impos- sibility of inviting diplomats representing represent-ing the opposing nations engaged in the war to the same dinner. J. J. Jusseraud. the French embassador, embassa-dor, dean of the diplomatic corps, will head the list of guests at the dinner attended at-tended bv representatives of the allies, and Count von Bernstorff. the German embassador, who ranks after Embassador Embassa-dor Jusserand in the diplomatic corps, will be entitled to the seat of honor at I the other dinner.. Neutrals to Be Allotted. The embassadors and ministers representing repre-senting neutral powers will be allotted between the two dinners. Just how the selections will be made has not been settled, but is admittedly a perplexing problem, especially as regards those diplomats dip-lomats w-hose countries now are being urged to enter the war by both sides. These questions will be referred to the state department by the White House. The first diplomatic dinner will be given January 21, and the second January 25. The "series of entertainments will be opened January 7, with a Pan-American reception in honor of delegates to the Pan-American scientific congress and diplomats representing Central and South American nations. Then will follow the cabinet dinner, which will be attended bv Vice President Presi-dent and Mrs. Marshall, the two diplomatic diplo-matic dinners, the judicial reception, a dinDer to the supreme court, trie congressional con-gressional reception, a dinner to Speaker Clark, which will be attended by loaders of the senate and house and several special guests, and, finally, the army and navv reception. Tne dinners will be held in the state dining room in the White House, which was completely repaired last summer. The "United States marine baud will furnish fur-nish music at the reception, and the president will be attended by fourteen I military ami naval aides officially attached at-tached to the White House. Preparations Prepara-tions for the entertainments already have begun, and from now on a special spe-cial staff of clerks will work on the invitations. |
