One of the. most successful and artistically artis-tically enjoyable events of the week In local musical circles was the piano recital re-cital given by Miss Elconor Anna Voelker, a brilliant yountr pupil of Mary Frances Sanborn and daughter of Mr. and Mm. A. IT. KJrchner. Mies Voelker proved herself to bo an earnest, talented and painstaking student, playing her entire en-tire programme without a score and without faltering. Her Interpretation, especially In the larger numbers, was W j :lf;an and full of musical expression. lW The Beethoven sonata waB played with J '. unusual skill In so young a performer. ,!; Following, In pleasing contrast, was i Schumann's "Warrum." and a Chopin ;jr ;; valse. Mendelssohn's Rondo Cappmcloso j;.' was taken in good tempo nnd showed t'j careful study, although in some parts a jfel! flight lack of clearness may have been 7T, ii noticed. However, the entire work was iy, so well done that Miss Voelker received iUji an encore, playing "In Autumn." by Mc-',jf Mc-',jf Dowell. The "Love Waltz," by Mosc-,)"; Mosc-,)"; kowskl, was one of the most pleasing -ti numbers on the programme. Mrs. Sanborn was the accompanist. A large audience heard the recital, and both pupil and teacher received many congratulations. Concert for Hospital Fund. The City Teachers association has provided pro-vided a fund for the relief of Its sick members. This fund romes from dues and assessments. This Is recognized hh h roost commendable undertaking by the arsodatlon. It has been unusually heavily heav-ily taxed during the past year for tho many teachers who have been ill and, 'JJ for the right kind of care, have been i( taken to hospitals. McClellan played a special organ recital at the tabernacle Thursday afternoon in honor of Colonel Jaclcllng and his distinguished eastern guests, which included Messrs. Ryan, head of the copper industry of the cast: W. U. Corey, former head of the steel trust, and Bankers Stillman, Harrlman, etc. A fine programme was rendered, and after the performance Colonel Jackllng brought his guests to the organ keyboard to meet the porformcr, and enthusiastic praise was bestowed upon the local organist by tho members of the party.
