Thar, an automobile routo south of tho Great Salt lake is feasible and practicable, even in the worst kind of weather, was clearly demonstrated last week bv B. M. Anderson of this city, who made tho trip in a small car under tho worst possible circiunstaucca. "When this route is talked about, the average Salt Lakor at once thinks of tbo desert and promptly saya it is impassablo. Last Sunday Mr. Anderson decided to make tho trip to Fish Springs. He was accompanied by his wit'o. Thoy drove a small car. Aftor bcinq out. a J'ew hours it bogan to rain. Whilo this made tho roads heavy, they wcro not imnassablo. As evening camo on the rain turned into snow, and in a short timo the car was floundering about in tbo water and snow. Losing th0 way in the dark the car mired in a mud hole uud Anderson Bavjj thev determined to mako a night of it. Tho side curtains were all fastened fast-ened down and tho oil lamps taken off tho car and placed insido to be used as heaters. After settling down for the nicht a team caino along and pulled the ear back in the road. Mr. Andersou decided to co on and reached. Simpson Springs about, midnight. Here a stop was made for tho nicht. and tho next niornintr the .ioumey was continued to Pinh Springs in a. foot of snow. Mr. Anderson said the trip was completed com-pleted without difllculty and after a couple of days' visit the return trip was made In a day without trouble. Mr. Anderson says two davs of sunshine sun-shine put the ronds in excellent shape for tho return trip. |
