Show ASSESSED VALUATIONS. Wo are obliged to Assessor Amos S. Gabbott for the following, which we assume to bo an accurate statement of the assessor's roll in this county for tho present year compared with the year 1911": Sail Lake City. May 3. Killtor Tribune: In your Issue of May 2. 101. under the heading "City Valuations Valua-tions Raised,'' you have not quoted tho correct iljjures in making1 a, comparative statement of the assessed valuation of Salt Lake county for tho ycaro lpli and 101 I am Rolnsr to give you a correct statement state-ment of the assessment of Salt Lake county, ns made by this office and returned re-turned to the County Treasurer on May 1 for tho years 1911 and 1012. The above-mentioned above-mentioned article does rne an Injustice and I will trust to the fairness of yourself your-self and the general public after reading the figures sis at record In mv office. The total assessed valuation of Salt Lake City an made by the County A-Ecasor A-Ecasor in 1011 amounted to 556.573,219, and In 1912 lo $57,675,032. This shows an increase In bait Lake City In 1012 over 1011 of 11.101.81.1, or an Increase of a little lit-tle leas than 2 per cent. Thp assessed value of Salt Lake county outside of Sajt Lako City In 1911 umount-o-i? 12''3).S01 "nd In 1912 to ?13.--8i,ol an increase in the county outside I'3kc .C,ly ,n 1912 ovor 1911 of SSSi.inO. or an Increase of over C per cent. Trusting you will publish these Oguros I am youra respectfully te ' AMOis S. GABBOTT, We found it practically impossible to get exact figures on these assessments assess-ments of the city and of the county outside of the city. We were awnrc that we did not have the figures oxac!, and so stated that the wcro approxi mate. Diligent inquiry in the assess orV qffieo failed to give us the fig. j urcs (In t o drnired, and o we hail I to a pioMiuatr at nenrlv .s we could trom tin- disjointed and disconnected figures that could be had. We find, how-over, that our figures were not so very much out of tho way. Wo staled that tho increase of the assessment in this city was $l,207,0:i. which it ap-pcarp ap-pcarp was $106,170 too much, the exact figures being $1,101,81:1. The figures which wo wero able to give on the increase in-crease in the county outside of Salt Lako City, approximately, wero .$400,-1)50. .$400,-1)50. These f iguros, it appears, wero $106,180 too low, for Mr. Gabbott gives this increaso as $670, IH0. According to our recollection, last year the assessment of tho county property prop-erty outside of tho city was actually lowered by I he asfessor, as compared with tho nssCKsmcnt of 1010, while, at tho same time, the assessment of tho city was largely iucroat-cd; so that the increase made this year in the county outside of the city is perhaps a partial remedy of tho injuaticc of last year on this account. Wo desire at all times to have everything every-thing of this nature, ato.tcd with exactness, exact-ness, and accordingly wc, are more than willing to print tho figures as riven above by Assessor Gabbott. |
