Show GRAND ARMY VETERANS TO BEWtLL CARED FOB Young Women Will Serve Coffee and Sandwiches During Big Parade. Tu order to throw all safeguards possible pos-sible around those who tako part in tho great parado of the coming national encampment of the G. A. R., arrangements arrange-ments aro now being mado by the refreshment re-freshment committco to provide coffee and sandwiches for every veteran in tho parade, n'ust before tho start. The stimulus given by this food and drink is expected to preparo tho veterans for tho long two-inilo tramp down Main street nnd back again. Tho tramp is considered a severe undertaking un-dertaking for almost an- ono and will be especially trying on tho veterans, many of whom aro more than 70 years old. Booths for the dispensing of refreshments re-freshments will be placed along the. line of march on Stato street and South Temple, so that it. will bo possible to care for every veteran in the parade immediately , before tho start is made. Thero will be forty-two booths', with vounsr women in attendaace. to pass the refreshments. Tho problem of providing the food for the proposed refreshments has been a serious ono with the committee. Contributions Con-tributions have been asked of coffee, sugar, bread and other necessary articles arti-cles of the people of Salt Lake City, and Ogden has agreed to provide 1000 loaves of broad. Provo was asked to provide the necessary coffee, but through a misunderstanding the request was refused. It is now unrlerstood that the people are anxious to help in this matter, and if the request is made iu tho proper form the city will provide aH the coffee required and such other refreshments as may be needed. A meeting of tho committee will he held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the general committee rooms, when the matter will bo discussed at considerable length. |
