Show GOES BEHIND 3i MD HELPS HIMSELF Sneak-Thief Secures $505 Belonging Be-longing (o the Ogden Turf Exchange. Special to The Tribune. OGDEN. July 0. While the attention of Ilo.s Adams, the bartender at the Best saloon, on Twenty-fifth street, was momentarily mo-mentarily distracted, a sneak-lhier went behind tho bar about f o'clock tonight, and made away with a tin box containing ?ri0r belonging to the Ogden Turf e.-chnngo. e.-chnngo. The exchange was closed, as usual, a short time before 0 o'clock. Following the regular custom, the proceeds from the day's business were placed In a tin box to be locked In the saloon saf Manager T. J. Carrlgan. of the exchange, handed the box to Adams, but as L. B. Best, proprietor of the saloon was absent at the time, with the keys of the safe In his possession, the box of money was placed behind the counter by the bartender, bar-tender, to be deposited In the safe when Best returned. Thinking that the money was safe where he had loft ft Adams continued a conversation with n patron of the saloon. Sometime afterwards, some one called the bartender's attention to the fact that a man had gone behind tho bar and taken a bottle of beer. It then occurred lo Adntns that the- money might have been stolen. The matter was reported lo the police, who are at work on the case. A private safe may bo rented in the fire and burglar-proof vaults of the Salt Lake Sccurit' and Trust company, 32 up Main street, $2.00 per year. |
