Not ouly were the rcccutly elected stale officials inducted into office at the capitol bore today with much ceremony, but tho eleventh legislative assembly also assembled, as-sembled, and both houses immediately perfected organization In- electing the various officials selected "in tho respective respec-tive house Democratic and senate Republican Re-publican caucuses last night. W. W. McDowell of Butte was elected speaker; Edward Burke of Anacouda, speaker pro tern; Charles Pond of Bozeman, chief clerk, and C. P. Blakelcv of Livingston, Liv-ingston, sergcant-at-arms, these officials offi-cials being Democratic in politics. The Republicans voted for T. A. Cumrnings of Fort Benton for speaker. The Republican senators made Thomas Thom-as Everett of Harlem president pro tern, and Nathan Godfrc3' of Helena, secretary. secre-tary. Immediately after tho administration of the oath to the newly-elected officers the legislature adjourned until tomorrow, when Governor Norris will read his message before the ioiut assembly. as-sembly. Tho most imposing ceremon3r of the day perhaps was the induction into office of-fice of Governor Edwin L. Norris, the oath being administered by Chief Justice Braully before spectators, who, because of their great number, severely tested the capacity of the large reception recep-tion room. This was followed by the ndminiM ration of oath to the remaining remain-ing statu officials, including secretary of state, attorney-general, auditor, treasurer, superintendent of public in-! in-! struction, and railroad commissions, all these being Kepublicaus. |
