Show SEVEN STATES TO COMPETE. Normal Schools of Northwest Will Hold Big Meet. A big athlcllo meet will bo held In connection con-nection with tho lnterstato normal oratorical ora-torical contest In Milwaukco on May 12. Tho meet will bo held at Stato Fair park on tho afternoon beforo the high school ' meet. Athletes from tho normal schools of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska will tako part. Tho "Wisconsin schools will bo captained cap-tained by Wlttlch, a former East Sido athlete, who holds tho Stats discus record with a throw of over 104 feet. Corcoran was elected manager and says that this year's meet will bo tho greatest ever given by the normal Ites. Carson In tho dlstanco runs and Wlttlch In tho weights are Milwaukco men with good records to their .credit. Several others, oth-ers, Including Corcoran, Cronln and Stengel, Sten-gel, havo competed In high school athletics, athlet-ics, nnd will try hard to land places for Wisconsin. Stoven Point has a high jumper jump-er who has cleared the bar at 5 feet 11 Inches, and this mnrk looks good for first place. Other good athletes from tho othor normals, Including Roddick, with a record of .10 flat In the hundred, will help Wisconsin Wis-consin In Its fight for first honors. Tho Iowa normal school, which has a student body of 2500, took tho meet last year, but they wllL bo given a close run this year. At a meeting of the athletic society of the normal school, emblems wcro awarded to tho basketball players. Randall was elected manager of the basketball team for next yenr, and Carson was elected captain by tho members of tho team. A call for candidates for places on tho track team was mado by Capt. Wrlttlch, with the result taht about twenty men responded. |
