Show I. FBANCTSCO CONFIRMS. Director Brown Makes Public the I Plans of Gould. ' SAN FRANCISCO. Cal., April 22. Tho following statement regarding the organizations organ-izations and plans of tho Western Paclflo Railroad company has been made public by J. Dalzcll Brown, one of tho directors of tho now railroad: ' I have received a telegram from George J. Gould authorizing mo to Inform In-form tho people of California that ho and his overland railroad system are behind tho Western Pacific and will construct It without delay In order to give the Gould loads an entrance Into California and u Pacific ocean terminus at San Francisco. ' "I am also authorized to Hay that E. T. Joffcry, ono of Mr. Gould's right-hand men and long tho president of his Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande system, Is to Immediately Immedi-ately become president of tho Western Pacific. "Furthermore, "Waller J. Bartnett of thla city, who is now president of tho company. Is to become Its vice-president and chief counsel, "Somo of the local directors, including George A. Batcheldor, manager of E. H. Rollins & Sons; A.- C. Kalns, manager of tho Canadian Bank of Commerce, and perhaps ono or two others will go to New York next week to attend an Important Im-portant meeting of tho board. There are now three Eastern directors in the board E. T. Jeffcry. Edwin Hawlcy and William Wil-liam IL Taylor of tho Bowling Green Trust company. Tho board Is to be organized, or-ganized, by the election of several other 1 Eastern gentlemen In tho places of some of the local members who will retire. Contracts for the construction of tho, en-tiro en-tiro line have been settled on. and tho awards will bo made at tho approaching mooting of tho dircctora. Tho maximum grade over tho Sierras will bo 1 per cent." |
