Chi-cago. This "episode" Is a pretty full running account of the ascension of Louis Napoleon Na-poleon lo the throne df Franco as Napoleon Na-poleon II L Ho Jn represented as arriving In London on his escapo from tho castle of Ham, his reception by tho fashionable world as tho aspirant to tho French throne, and as a man wjio had a great part to play In tho world. Tho lovely Spanish girl, Eugenlo do Montljo. was the rage of fashionable " London, and was presented lo tho Prince, .who fell In love with her. and at Baden declared himself. She refused, as she thought ho should not bo hampered with a wife, unless he could marry Into wealth. -It Is a very pretty romance, though the Prlnco Is somewhat lotharglc; and when he finally achieves his ambition, and continues his attentions to Eugenie, a disgraceful suspicion attaches at-taches to their relations, tho Itnowlcdgo of which by him precipitates the engagement engage-ment of the lovers. The story Is told without much fire or animation, the author au-thor perhaps pitching his narrative on the key of the character of tho bridegroom. Tho publishers havo made ihls an admirable specimen of book-making, using the host material, the pages having tinted border, and tho text being from plain, large typo which shows up espc- j clally well. |
