Show DESERTER ANXIOUS TO GET BACK AGAIN Service in the United States navy did not seem so disagreable to Frank Scott after he had been sleeping in haystacks hay-stacks and box cars for three weeks as it did before. "I am a deserter from the Mare Is-Jank Is-Jank navy yard." said Scott to Patrolman Patrol-man Jack Furster on Commercial street yesterday morning, "and I want to give myself up." Scott said that he, with twenty-nine others, deserted from the navy three weeks ago. His money was soon gone and he had to depend on his wits for a living. With such small capital he frequently went hungry and bcdless. Liberty was not such a boon as he had Imagined It to be. and, when he failed to get any letlera from his mother he decided to take his punishment. Mr. Furster accomodated him to the extent of locking him up and notifying the Chief of Police, who will communicate commu-nicate with the naval authorities. There Is transportation and 520 reward for the officer who delivers a deserted to Mare Island and some of the men who are on their vacations will probably get the trip to San Francisco and the money. The responsibility will not be great as Scott Is as anxious to get back as fast as the police can possibly take him. |
