THE AMERICAN Legion Auxiliary, on behalf of this year's girls' staters, express their gratitude to Mayor Elmer Barlow. The Bountiful Lady Lions. The Bountiful Ladies of Elks, the Bountiful Business and Professional Pro-fessional Women. Bountiful Lady Republicans, and the League of Women Voters for their contribution of funds for this program. These individuals indi-viduals and groups are to be congratulated for their fine public spiritedness and generosity. Southern Utah State College Col-lege in Cedar City will host the 35th annual American Legion Auxiliary Utah Girls' State session June 7-13. THIS educational program is designed to inform the young women of our state of their duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. A gathering of over 350 girls will form a mythical 5 1 st state. They will go through the procedure of electing city, county and state officials, form a working legislature, observe court precedures during a mock trial, and experience the organization of party politics poli-tics according to the laws governing gov-erning the state of Utah. THROUGH ACTUAL participation parti-cipation in all levels of the political poli-tical process, the girls are able to gain an understanding of the problems of elective officials, their duties and their functions. func-tions. Application to Girls' State is open to all girls in theirjunior year in high school. Final selection of candidates is made by a group of qualified judges on the basis of leadership, scholarship, poise, personality, personal-ity, involvement in school and community activities, and an expressed interest in gaining further knowledge of government. govern-ment. t REPRESENTING the George R.
