Show West Bountiful They reside in Highland. Former Bishop Bob Telford stopped in West Bountiful to see his friends. He has been working with his son Mike in Idaho on a large farm. The people in the First Ward are going to miss Carl and Lana Swanson and their family. fami-ly. They are moving to Bountiful. Boun-tiful. The girls of the First Ward enjoyed their Temple Night held at the home of Susan Harkness. Each girl received a temple picture in a fabric frame, enjoyed dinner and the special speaker. Leaders helping help-ing were Lana Swanson. Val Bown. Linda Scott and Sue Harkness. By ALICE MITCHELL This week the citizens of West Bountiful celebrated Memorial Day in many ways. Some of them took vacations, others traveled to places of childhood to place floral offerings offer-ings on the graves of departed loved ones, mothers and fathers told their children stories stor-ies of their ancestors and tried to instill a sense of thankfulness thankful-ness for the legacy they had been given through the lives of their dead. In most cemeteries there are sections set apart for the dead who died in unknown places around the world. This causes some to recollect the armed services people who died to protect the legacy of peace and plenty. The weather didn't seem to dampen the holiday. There were roses, peonies and iris for the day. and the artificial flowers flow-ers blended in to make the cemeteries a most colorful spot. Halvor Olsen. other teachers and pupils of the Stoker School are a bit sad to know that soon all there will be are memories of that insitu-tion. insitu-tion. A week ago Halvor and another grade held their annual Fiesta Day. They had been studying a unit on Mexico and other Spanish lands to the south of us. Halvor's sister, Virginia Richards, attended the fiesta dressed in the costumes cos-tumes of Uruguay, where she had spent her time as an LDS missionary. She showed the students some of the souvenirs she had kept, showed them dances and taught them some Spanish words. The cooks at the school cooked a special taco dinner for the fourth and fifth graders involved. The children added chips and dips to the menu. During the unit on Spanish culture the students were encouraged en-couraged bo bring Spanish keepsakes to class to show during a "show and tell" session. ses-sion. Paul Lurk, a former West Bountifulite, visited the fourth grade on their Pioneer Day and told them of the instruments he has in his collection. He showed them some of the arms of the Mormon Battalion, his cannon (which is used in parades). para-des). The children sang songs and decorated the entire school for Festa Day and Pioneer Day. Ruby Olsen and family members are looking forward to the wedding of her granddaughter, grand-daughter, Shareen Moody to Stanley Clark Kimball III in the Los Angeles Temple. Shareen is the daughter of Marjory Olsen Moody. Another daughter of Ruby's, Karen Hatch, enjoys her work as a housekeeper in the Seattle Washington Temple. The Randy Arnolds enjoyed a barbecue at the home of grandparents over the holiday. The Scott Christensens celebrated Scott's graduating from the University of Idaho at Moscow, Ida. two weeks ago. He will now study to pass the bar exam. Grandma Wall, who lives in the duplex south of the Myr-veldean Myr-veldean Dangerfield home, was happy to have a visit from her son. Levi B. Wall and his wife Dianna. They were accompanied by two daughters daugh-ters and a graddaughter. Mary Watts and family members traveled to Provo. Orem and Ephraim to decorate graves. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Virgin and their children came from Las Vegas to visit with grandma and grandpa Merrell over the holiday. Coming from Black-foot. Black-foot. Ida. to visit them were Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Merrell and family. The David Monson and . other family members enjoyed the Bountiful School of Ballet program. Their daughters. Kelly and Kristy . had parts on the program. The group enjoyed en-joyed a social after the ballet. The David Monsons are announcing that their son. Jedd, has been accepted to the Columbia Law School and has received a scholarship. Carla Monson returned from a week in Walnut Creek. Calif, and Jedd has been vacationing in Mexico. Also, the Monsons have a new grandson, born to son David and his wife Bev. Bob and Phyllis Dilks combined com-bined business and pleasure on their trip to Denver recently. Bud and Elva Stringham enjoyed en-joyed having Memorial Day dinner with LaVon Williams and family. Other guests were Robert and Megan Stringham and Harry Pickerings grand-daughtercame grand-daughtercame from BYU. The Pickerings are old friends of the Stringhams. The granddaughter grand-daughter brought her new baby and husband with her. Florence Ware fell and broke her collar bone recently. The Dell Zesigers enjoyed their vacation in California recently. re-cently. They visited various points of interest. Carol has a brother in St. George and they visited with him. The fathers and sons of the Third Ward enjoyed an over-nighter over-nighter at Tracy Wigwam as they commemorated the anniversary of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood last week. Fred and Marjorie Zesiger spent the Memorial Day in Salt Lake City with their son Harold and wife Gail. The Don Zesigers enjoyed Memorial Day with their family fami-ly at Zarahemla. Janet and Ken Wellington traveled to Delta to spend Memorial Day with Janet's mother. Elizabeth Judd. The Vic Tracys enjoyed their visit with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Homestead last week. |
