Show Rains, Poor Drainage Cause Jail Flooding FARMINGTON A week long siege of rainshowers coupled with inadequate drainage channels has resulted in some flooding at the new Davis County jail. SHERIFF BRANT Johnson told the county commission Tuesday the east side of the newly-constructed facility is being threatened by continual flooding in the wake of recent storms. He said water has been building up for several weeks inside the catch basin threatening to overflow. The sheriff did not say how much, if any, damage has resulted from the flooding. HE ASKED permission from the commission com-mission to have work crews dig into the sump area in front of the jail and install a drainage line into the parking lot, where an additional run-off drain is located. "It's that steady rain that gets you," a county engineer told the commissioners. SUPPORTERS OF the project estimate it will take from one-half to one full day to backhoe the trouble spots and install the drainage pipe. "It's not a major job at all," Sheriff Johnson John-son said. THE COMMISSIONERS unanimously supported the idea and voted to allow the work to be done. |
