Show WFRC Approves Budget Cuts Staff BOUNTIFUL - The Wasatch Front Regional Re-gional Council Thursday approved a $525,394 operating budget for the 1981-82 fiscal year. THE LONG-awaited decision spells the end of a six-an-a-half council staff positions, posi-tions, effective July 1. Salt Lake Councy Com. William E. Dunn asked councilmembers to approve the budget and to authorize WFRC Director Direc-tor Wilbur Jefferies to give notice to the employees that are being released due to budget buelt-tightening. FEDERAL APPROPRIATIONS for Housing and Urban Development and Air Quality planning grants have come to an end, a WFRC spokesman said recently. In all, the WFRC faces nearly $150,000 in federal fed-eral funding cutbacks. State funding to the organization is being cut by $5,000, a problem, but not as serious a threat as the federal cutbacks. WFRC assistant director Mick Crandall said recently. re-cently. SOME COUNCILMEMBERS asked whether or not $16,000, part of the WFRC's overall budget, has to be used for the A-95 grant approval process. Mr. Jefferies said A-95 funding is not mandatory for the council and noted that the money could be used for other, more pressing, WFRC programs. BASED ON state and federal funding cutbacks, cut-backs, the council will have to endure almost a 20 percent reduction in their operational oper-ational budget. 1 ne council appropriated a total of $640,000 for the 1980-81 fiscal budget, according to WFRC spokeswoman Gay Saunders, mdm |
