Show SAND RACING ' You haven't seen anything until you see a sand drag race driver count down the 'Christmas tree, churn his ipaddles throwing a fifty foot rooster tail, and break the beam at the far end of the hundred yards in under three ! seconds! : SAND DRAG racing is ; similar to asphalt drag racing. rac-ing. Both use an electronic light system, known as a 'Christmas tree" to start two ' racers down a straight track. ; The one that crosses the finish -line first wins, provided he does not "red light" or start before the tree shows green. ; In sand drag racing, the "strip measures only one hundred yards compared with a quarter of a mile in asphalt drag racing. Sand racers find they need quick reflexes, fast thinking, and top equipment in such a short distance. They usually get only one transmission trans-mission shift with many of the top machines using all the professional speed equipment available. CLASSES ARE generally determined according to weight per cubic inch. There are no handicaps. The major difference, naturally, na-turally, is the traction problems when you move from blacktop to sand. The answer is eighteen inch wide, thirty-six high "paddle" tires. SPECTATORS SEE a lot of action and generate great excitement ex-citement and enthusiasm.
