Show 10 FOFiiiiiigtQil Almost nine years ago, in the summer of 1967, the Far-mington Far-mington City government requested that a committee be organized to study the irrigation water systems and irrigation needs of the area. The committee carried out this assignment and submitted submit-ted a report of the findings and recommendations to the city government and each of the water companies of the community. IN RESPONSE to the committee com-mittee report, the Farming-ton Farming-ton Area Pressurized Irrigation Irriga-tion District was formed. This district has since its inception, pursued the objective objec-tive of consolidating the area's five major open ditch irrigation systems into a single underground pressurized pres-surized system to serve the present irrigation users as well as those residents and properties not now enjoying irrigation service. TO CONSTRUCT the system sys-tem a small reclamation projects loan with the federal government was applied for. After many delays, with the assistance of Senator Frank E Moss and Representative Gunn McKay, the loan has finally been approved and funded. The irrigation district is currently finalizing negotiations negotia-tions with the five irrigation companies whereby their stockholders will be serviced through the pressure irrigation irriga-tion system upon its completion. comple-tion. THE DISTRICT through contract with the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District has obtained water resources in sufficient quantity to additionally addi-tionally serve all residents and land within their district not previously benefiting from irrigation service. The governing body of the district is a seven man board of trustees made up of local residents, each serving a six year term of office. Those presently serving are M. P. Leonard, chairman, Horton V. Bourne, Gordell Brown, J. E. Johnson, Rulon A. King, Howard Rigtrup and John S. White. DON MORGAN serves as secretary and treasurer for the district and Aaron Richards is presently the acting act-ing manager. The Engineering Firm of Nielsen and Maxwell are presently completing final design and construction specifications for the three equalization reservoirs and pipeline distribution system that will service each property and home owner. Milton J. Hess, the Attorney for the District is in the process of completing final draft of contracts with each of the water companies and contracts for use by those residents desiring service. THE DISTRICT is now receiving connection fee payments from area residents during business hours at the city office building. This fee will be $150 per connection if paid prior to July 1, 1976. After that date, the connection fee will be raised to $200 until such time as construction work actually begins, when it will again be raised to $300 per connection. WHILE NO specific date for inauguration of service has yet been established, the District has as its goal being able to provide service at the beginning of the 1978 water year, and possibly piior to then.kj |
