It was a great day for the students as they scored really high in the swimming and gymnastics at the University of Utah on Saturday, Sa-turday, March 20. THF.SE EVENTS are sponsored spon-sored by Utah Special Olympics Olym-pics for retarded citizens. In swimming they won 7 first place ribbons and took third place in the swimming relay. As a team effort they won'the second place trophy. FIRST PLACE trophy was won by the USTC team which had more entries and has continual access to the swimming swim-ming pool at USTC with a full trained instructor for each student. We are very proud of the competitive spirit that our j team exhibited. This compe-; compe-; titive spirit is growing i stronger with each event we enter. Ribbons were won by the following students. SWIMMING Relay, third place; Blaine Slemp, Jane Kilfoyle. David Thomas and Stephen Ratcliffe. ir. the 50 yards, Jane Kilfoyle, Kil-foyle, first; Kent Davis, third; Curtis Fillmore, 4th; Blaine Slemp, second; Kathy Kearsley. third; Tom Hanson, first; Jay Smith, third; David Thomas, first and Stephen Ratcliffe, second. IN THE 25 yards, Susan Cunningham, second; Jane Kilfoyle. first; Kent Davis, first; Curtis Fillmore, second; Blaine Slemp, second and Tom Hanson, first. Carleen Hess, second; Jay Smith. fourth; David Thomas, second; Stephen Ratcliffe. fourth; Kathy Kearsley. third and Gaylene Hodson, fourth. GIRLS entered the gymnastic gym-nastic events and as a team they received the third place trophy. We think this is remarkable as the total score was computed from the tumbling events as well as the gymnastics and we had no one entered in the tumbling. We must have scored very high in the gymnastics. Ribbons Rib-bons went to the following. DIANE WISER, Tracy Patterson. Pat-terson. Linda Schell, Jane Kilfoyle and June Thorsted, all took first. WE WOULD like to give special thanks to Joann Jacobsen who spearheaded everything and to Lex Mar-cusen Mar-cusen who helped train the students. We would also like to thank Nanette Daley, captain cap-tain of the Davis High gymnastic gym-nastic team who helped with the routines for the gymnas- tics. The students at Monte Vista are looking forward to the Bowling Tournament which will be hfld on April 17 at the Wasatch Lanes in Salt Lake City.
