Show Former Parowanite dies in Orem PAROWAN - Joseph Ervin Stevens age 79, died June 29, at his home in Orem. He was born May 25, 1898 in Parowan to Joseph and Alice Yardley Stevens. He married Violet Matheson Sept. 27, 1921 in the St. George Temple. He was an active member of the LDS Church and filled a mission to new Zealand from 1964 to 1966 with his wife. He was also active in temple work. He served as a Provo policeman for eight years. He managed a hotel in Salt Lake City for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, 2 sons Homer M., Washington and Joseph Gorden Stevens, California, and three daughters Mrs. James (Alyce) Rohrer, California; Mrs. Hal (Lucille) Day, Orem and Mrs. Donald (Jean Moore also of Orem. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Arnold Y. Stevens, Mt. Pleasant, Hilman Stevens Ogden; Violet Squires, Mrs. Owen (Ada) Hullinger both Salt Lake City; Marie Smith Granger , Mrs. Tracy (Lois) Blood Cedar City; Mrs. Ernest (Bertha) Topham Paragonah. Funeral services were held Sat. at one p.m. in the Orem 51st Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Orem City Cemetery. |
