Show Beryl Man Crushed to Death by Automobile .... . - , . i : RICHARD ROY LEWIS Richard Roy Lewis, 25, of Beryl apparently died Instantly Thursday. Thurs-day. Mar. 15, when a car on which he was working fell off steel blocks and crushed his bo dy beneath it. Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed Monday at Concord, Calif., at 1 p. m. for Lewis and burial was made in the Memory Garden cemetery. According to a report made by Investigating officers Lewis died at approximately 5 p. m. although al-though his body was not discovered discov-ered until 8 p. m. by his wife who became concerned and went looking for him. Lewis was working on his automobile au-tomobile when the accident oc-cured. oc-cured. The front wheels had been taken off the car and it was res'.ing on steel blocks. The car apparently slipped off the blocks sidewards and crushed him underneath. un-derneath. He was born at OJo Caliente, New Mexico, Nov. 12, 1936. The Lewis family came to the Escalante Valley a year ago from California and in this short time has won many friends. They were active In the affairs of the Enterprise First LDS Ward where he was a member of the ward M-Men basketball team. Mr. Lewis mother, sister and three brothers from New Mexico; Mexi-co; Mrs. Lewis' mother, father and brother of California and Mrs. Lewis' cousins, John, Bob and Ruth Kendall, and Shirley Summers of Salt Lake City came to Escalante Valley at the time of the accident to be with the family. He is survived by his widow and three children, including Jo-dy Jo-dy Western, four; Rose, 2V and Alan Dale, 2'i months, all of Beryl; his mother, Rose Emma, and three brothers, Edward, John and Robert, and a sister Carol, all of Farmington, N. M. and two sisters residing In California. Friends in the area paid final respects to the accident victim Saturday evening at the Enterprise Enter-prise Ward chapel. Officers Investigating the accident ac-cident were Troopers Gordon Farnsworth and Wm. Burch of the Utah Highway Patrol, and Otto Fife and Dallen Williams of the Iron County sheriffs depart-' depart-' ment. |
