The polf classic will bo hold In Vernal on tho pinaland Golf Course July 17, 18 and 19. Over $:Ui,0O0 in cash and prizes will lie awarded. A polf call and n set of tires will be the prizes for the .closest to tho hole contest on number one and a car will be given to the first golfer who nabs a hole-in-one on the number nine hole during the tournament. Professional golfers who will compete com-pete in the tournament are: Jon Mauss, Dinaland Golf pro; Bruce Summerhays, Heber City' Chip Garriss, Provo; Kean Ridd, Provo; Rusty Guernsey, Salt Lake City, Ronnie Rief. Steamboat Springs; Doug Hart, former Vernal resident and head pro at Palm Springs; Don Rrancn, Salt Uke City; Joe Bonsignore, Alpine; John Evans, Orem; Ron Branca, Salt I-ake City; Mike Borich, Salt Lake City; Lanny Noilson, Salt Iike City; Kim Thompson, Cedar City; Tommy Williams, Ogden; Dick Kramer, Bonneville; Clarence Twitehell, California; Dave Crowton, Provo; Sonny Braun, Springville; Stan Fenn, Colorado; Ralph Emery, Park City; Ed Vardon, Green River; Dean Candland, Ixigan; Bob Flager, Provo; Milan Swilor, Price; Bob Rudd, Tooele; Dave Densley, Roosevelt and Jeff Waters, Salt Lake City. The amateur portion is filled up and more professional golfers will sign up as the tournament draws closer. A pro-am will be played July 17 and the toe-off times will lie 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The golf classic is set for July 18 and 1). The A-B-C-D flights will tee off July 18 and 19 at 7:30 a.m. and the championship and professional golfers will attack their golf balls at 1 :30 p.m. The Eastern Utah Petroleum Invitational In-vitational Golf Classic replaces the Superior Tire Golf Classic. Past champions of the golf classic are George Schneiter, 1971 ; Bob Droz, 1972; Joey Bonsignore, 1973; Ron Branca, 1974; Rusty Guernsey, 1975; Mike Borich, 197G; Bob Flagler, 1977; Jack Sommers, 1978; James Blair, 1979 and Mike Malaska, 1980. Bonsignore, Branca, Guernsey, Borich and Flagler have signed up to compete in the Eastern Utah Petroleum Invitational Golf Classic. Malaska captured first place in the 19H0 tournament with a score of 138. The Salt Lake City golfer had scores of 65 and 72. Ron Vlosich, Green River and Steve LaDonne, Rifle, tied for second place at 1-13. Mauss and Blair tied for fourth place at 144. Summerhays, Goodliffe and Doug Hart tied for sixth place at 145. Ray Arinno fired a two round score of 139 for first place in the Media West Flaming Gorge Pro-Am in Green River. Bob Betley and Malaska tied for second place. Gary Schneiter of Sandy won the amateur title at 146. Ernie Schneiter led the senior professionals. Vardon placed second and Candland nabbed third. Williams, Bill Kind-ziorski, Kind-ziorski, Iarry Benson and Charles Haddock netted first place in the team competition. |
