Show one ff flue eiroslhies A rash of five traffic accidents in Vernal City last Monday night and Tuesday morning left several persons injured and killed a Jensen, Utah resident. The most serious accident occurred Tuesday at 10:17 p.m. when a 1972 Mercury driven by Judy L. Burkett, 37, of Jensen was east-bound on Highway 40 at 1581 South. Her vehicle crossed the center line and hit a west bound 1977 Dodge Aspen stationwagon driven by Jerald J. Angelow, 29, of Steamboat Village, Colorado. Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles for a short period because of the impact of the collision, said Mike Hamner, Vernal City Police. Mrs. Burkett died at the scene of the accident, and passengers in the car Gary Lee Caldwell, 29, of Vernal suffered suf-fered multiple head fractures and neck lacerations and Carla Dell Ross, 25, of Rock Springs, Wyoming suffered facial injuries. A passenger in the Angelow vehicle, Elizabeth Gamache, 21, Steamboat Village, Colorado suffered multiple fractures and injuries as did the driver. All were transported to the Ashlev Valley Medical Center where Caldwell was later transported to a Salt Lake hospital via airplane. "Thanks to the efforts of the EMTs and wreckers at the scene, persons were extracted from the vehicles without further injuries." in-juries." Early Tuesday morning Larry D. Motley, 20. of Jensen was west-bound on Main Street at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle he was driving. The 1976 Chevrolet pickup struck the curb at 260 West Main and rolled into the garden in front of Weston's Lamplighter Motel. Passengers in the vehicle were Austin L. Hayes, 26, Jensen, Jeffery Scott Brow, 20, Rangely, and Jeffery Kelly Dale Gritz, 21, of Jensen. All suffered minor injuries and were transported to the Ashley Valley Medical Center and later released. Motley was cited with driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident occurred at 2 a.m. In another accident Monday night, Richard Reynolds, 22, was west-bound on a motorcycle in the borrow pit along Highway 40 at 1680 East. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a beam which catapolted him over his motorcycle. There was not a light on the motorcycle and it wasn't street legal, reported Vernal City Police. Reynolds suffered a bilateral pelvic fracture and was transported to the Ashley Valley Medical Center. Shortly after that accident two cars collided in front of JB's Restaurant causing only minor injuries. In an unrelated accident Tuesday at 7:55 a.m., a girl riding her bicycle east on. 100. South was bit by a south-bound vehicle driven by Douglas W. Perry, Provo. Perry stopped on 300 West to make a left turn on 100 South. He didn't see Kimberly Karren, 14, who was struck by the 1973 Chevrolet pickup and was transported to the medical center where she was treated for minor bruises and abrasions.
