A first place trophy will be (warded to the best participating business and first and second place 'Wards will be presented to best entries ; n the parade. The rodeo is Professional (:isodeo Cowboys Association approved. Bareback bronc riding, bull riding, C ;:alf roping, saddle bronc riding, team , doping, barrel racing and steer Si wrestling will be the main events in the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo. The stock contractor for the rodeo will be D. A. . ;!"Swannv" Kerby of Salt Lake City. The 'clowns of the rodeo will be Ray Moser ' 'and son of Ogden. The rodeo royalty ' consists of Shelly Wall, queen; Suzann ) Wilkins, Miss Vernal and Kathy Chivers, Miss Uintah. Family night will be Thursday and the tickets will cost $1(5. The tickets must be purchased before rodeo time at Gardner's Bull Ring in Vernal, Smiley's Sporting Goods in Roosevelt or at the trailer in the center of town. The president of the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo committee is Buzz Holmes and the vice president is Mike McKee. The secretary is Wanda Holmes. Other members of the committee com-mittee are: Dick Gilbert, sound; Ed Jenkins, stock; Lorin Holmes, dance; Susan Holmes, Jimmy Dale Slaugh, parade; Norris Harrison, queen contest; con-test; Elden, Carole, Lesa and Janet Gardner, Rodeo Headquarters-Bull Ring, 789-4439; Cathy McKee, Dana Petersen, Lisa Knight and Christy Davis. Jackpot roping will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Valley Roping Club. A dance will be held after the rodeo Friday and Saturday. Doc Jim Allen, a PRCA roper from Vernal, remarked that he has talked to many top cowboys at various rodeos such as Paul Tierney, 1980 PRCA world all-around champion; Roy Cooper, 1980 world calf roping champ; Jimmie Cooir, Dee Pickett, calf ropers; Dave Brock, 1978 world calf roping champ; Don Gay, 1980 world bull riding champion; Tom Ferguson, 6-time world all-around champion and Lewis Field, Utah, high ranked bronc rider, and they are planning to compete in the 31st annual Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo if they can work things out. Some of the top ranked cowboys who have competed in the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo are Ferguson, world all-around champion; Cooper, calf roping champ; Gay, bull riding champion; Leo Camarillo, world all-around all-around champion; Joe Marvel, saddle bronc champion; Brock, calf roping champ; Joe Alexander, bareback bronc riding champ; Bruce Ford, bareback bronc champ; Brad Smith, George Richards, team roping champs; Bobby Berger, saddle bronc champ; Doyle Gellerman-Walt Woodard, team roping champs; Lyle Sankcy, bareback bronc; Pickett, No. 5 calf roper; Monty Hensen, saddle bronc champ; Bud Monroe, saddle bronc leader going into the National Finals; J. C. Trujillo, Steamboat Springs, number three in bareback riding and Mickey Young, Wellington, Utah number two in bareback bronc riding in 1980 and runner-up to world bareback bronc champion, Jack Ward, 1978. Many outstanding Utah cowboys, Allen, Vernal; Jack Hannum, Ogden; Dixon Hamilton, Wellsville, Lynn Cuch, Sherwood Cuch, Reg Cuch, Western Uintah County; Lonnie, Jay and Monty Hadley, Ogden and D. J. Terry, Salt Lake City, as well as many team ropers from Utah have taken part in the rodeo. Local members of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association are also members of the Wilderness Circuit. Champions in 1980 were: Pickett, all-around, all-around, team roping, calf roping; Butch Small, saddle bronc; Young, bareback bronc riding; and Hannum, steer wrestling. |
