Show Western Fuels-Utah names housing supervisor for Rangely Prewiring for a sizable increase in the population of the town of Ilnngely, Colorado, because of impending construction con-struction of the Deserado coal mine, Western Fuels-Utah has established the position of housing supervisor. William L. Beard, who has been chief building inspector for the Town of Rangely and assistant town manager-grantsman, manager-grantsman, has accepted the position, Ken llolum, general manager of Western Fuels Association, Inc., announced an-nounced recently. Western Fuels Association is a nonprofit cooperative organization of consumer-owned utilities, municipal electric utilities and public power districts. It is the parent company of Western Fuels-Utah. Western Fuels-Utah was formed to develop and operate the Deserado mine northeast of Rangely and to supply the coal produced there to Deseret Generation & Transmission Cooperative of Sandy, Utah. Deseret is preparing to construct a 400-mcgawatt, coalfired generating station at Bonanza and is planning a second 400 mW unit. The overall development - mine, railroad to deliver the coal, and the power station - is known as the Moon Lake Project. Holum said he is pleased that someone with Mr. Beard's experience and knowledge of the Rangely- Rio Blanco area could be obtained for "this important and demanding position." I le added that this action, within a week of the signing of an agreement between WF-U and the County of Rio Blanco regarding mitigation of socio-economic impacts which are expected to be caused by construction of mine and power plant, "is evidence of Western Fuels' determination to be a good citizen of Rio Blanco County, Rangely and other nearby communities. "We have been working and will continue to work with these communities com-munities to be certain that there is no shortage of adequate housing and other necessary facilities because of this development." Western Fuels has had a community development office in Rangely since last year, headed by Ann McLachlan-Jones, McLachlan-Jones, whose responsibilities are growing almost daily. The Association's Denver office also has used Rangely as headquarters during a three-year drilling and exploration program at the mine site. Hiring of Mr. Beard will not aggravate the current housing situation at Rangely because he already lives there. A native of Brooklyn. Iowa, he had lived in Colorado almost continuously con-tinuously since 1949. He has had 38 years in the construction field and 14 years experience in building inspection for local governments - building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and design. Ms. McLachlan-Jones was also a Rangely resident, serving as as assistant to the President of the Colorado Northwestern Community College prior to accepting her position with Western Fuels. |
