Show . s r - - , ' ( " " A I ' ll v JOSEPH KITCHEN Tridell resident dies at home Joseph Levi Kitchen, 92, of Tridell died June 27, 1981 at his home. Born Feb. 8, 1889 in Buckingham County, Va. to John Abraham and Sarah Francis Neister Kitchen. He married Blanche Cook, Jan. 18, 1911 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His family was converted to the LDS Church while living in Virginia. He has been active since joining. He worked in the YMMIA and as home teacher, Indian missionary, Ward Church Building Committee, and at the time of his death he was a High Priest. He sent two sons on missions and sponsored a Chinese boy, Paul Lin, while he was in the U.S. studying for a doctor's degree. He came to the Uintah Basin in June of 1917. He farmed for several years and later went into the merchantile business which was closed in 1973. He took pride in his garden, always raising a nice one until two years ago when his health began to fail. Survivors are widow of Tridell; five sons and five daughters, Mrs. Charles (LaZelle) Glines, Mrs. Enes (Lea Mae) Hatch, both of Tridell; Norman Ray Kitchen, Provo; John L. Kitchen, Orem; Weldon J. Kitchen, Ralph Lenford Kitchen, Melvin R. Kitchen, all of American Fork; Mrs. -Don (Belva) Chamberlain, Cedar Fort, Utah; Mrs. Alfred (Maxine) Defa of Magna and Mrs. Rulon (Virginia) Hansen, Salt Lake City; 77 grandchildren and 242 great and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Bartlett. Funeral services were Tuesday. June 30, at the Tridell LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Tridell Cemetery. Funeral services were officiated by Bishop David E. Wallace. Enes Hatch, son-in-law, gave the family prayer. The opening prayer was by Ralph Lenford Kitchen, a son. A piano solo was played by Norman Joseph Kitchen, a grandson. grand-son. A life sketch was given by Brenda Hill, a granddaughter, and Norman Ray Kitchen and Janette Cannon sang "Echos of Eternity," accompanied by Connie McKee. Following remarks by Bishop Wallace, Annie Kitchen, Norma Otto, Janae Raty, Joan Yocum, Nathan Kitchen and Carolyn Killion sang "Look Up to Him," accompanied by Mariam Kitchen. Melvin R. Kitchen, a son, gave some remarks and Errol Merkley, Jerry Goodrich, Lennis McKee and Steve Yancy sang "Oh My Father," accompanied by Connie McKee. Darrel Kitchen, a great nephew, spoke. Weldon J. Kitchen, a son, gave the closing prayer. John Levi Kitchen, a son, dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were Rick Chamberlain, Jon Bartlett, Dennis Glines, Sherel Goodrich, Dean Kitchen and Kent Montgomery. Most people think heart disease happens hap-pens only in the elderly. Yet, each year 20,000 Americans die from childhood heart diseases, according to the American Heart Association. |
