Show 4 itMta HALF A TREE BALANCES on power lines after it broke in half and fell over the line on North Vernal Ave. Power was not affected. Women Moving Up in Business NASHVILLE, TENN. Some 2,000 women gathered here were told by a national business organization organi-zation spokeswoman they will succeed suc-ceed on their own merits and not because of special consideration for their gender. "As long as women see them- selves as 'special' in any way, they will be considered burdensome and costly to the (business) enterprise struggling to survive in a highly competitive market," said Phyllis H. Moehrle, vice president, special projects, National Association of Manufacturers. She said: "Evidence is mounting that the w ay for us to accelerate our progress is not to keep on fighting battles that are already won, nor to focus on cosmetic, superficial changes, or to carry a chip on our shoulder appearing at every rum to be looking look-ing for 'angles' or issues we can protest about. Our battle is in the mopping up stage." Moehrle said: "With legal equality equal-ity largely won and substantial safety safe-ty nets already established, our own personal growth and solid performance perform-ance can close the gap faster than all the marches we can organize." |
