Show North of the Border Fiesta Combines Mexican Favorites J" " 111 - A - . , . t: . y - y . ; You needn't be a turista browsing through an open-air market in Mexico, nor even a gringo searching for a hole-in-the-wall Mexican food store to find authentic south of the border foods. Now you can buy them right in your neighborhood supermarket. Tortillas, tamales and frijoles along with a variety of other traditional Mexican culinary treats are now common finds on the shelves of many American supermarkets. You'll be surprised at how many different products there are, and how much fun they are to cook with . . . and eat. To help you plan a Mexican style fiesta at your own dinner table, home economists for Gebhardt Mexican Foods Company suggest Tamale Flank Steaks served with Cucumber Bean Boats. Both tempting recipes are easy to make with Mexican foods straight from your grocer's shelf. Complete the menu with a basket of steaming hot tortillas and fresh fruit. TAMALE FLANK STEAKS (8 Servings) 2 beef flank steaks 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce (about 1 pound each) 1 can (10 oz.) Gebhardt's teaspoon salt Chili Hot Dog Sauce ft teaspoon garlic salt Vi cup strong beef broth V teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon Gebhardt's 1 can (15 oz.) Gebhardt's Chili-Quik Tamales 1 teaspoon Gebhardt's Vi cup cooking oil Hot Sauce Pound meat on both sides until about U-inch thick; sprinkle with salt, garlic salt and pepper. Unwrap tamales; place in bowl. Break up with fork. Spread tamales over seasoned steaks. Roll up each steak, starting with the narrow end, as tor jelly roll. Tie and brown on all sides in oil. Place in shallow baking pan. Combine Com-bine remaining ingredients and pour over meat. Bake at 350 degrees for 1',2 hours or until tender, basting occasionally with sauce.
