Two other major reclamation projects pro-jects in the planning stages are the Upalco and Uintah Units of the Central Utah Project system sponsored by the Bureau of Reclamation. These two projects pro-jects are essential in utilizing our cyclical water resource to its greatest advantage. Whenever a reclamation dam has been built the recreation facilities and activities have improved and increased. increas-ed. Projects like Oaks Park, East Park, and Paradise Park are centers for recreation because of improved roads and reservoir fishing. Then came Flaming Gorge, Steinaker, Bottle Hollow and Starvation. These projects have captured a renewable resource that is primary to any other development. develop-ment. Without water nothing much can develop. With water the desert can be made to blossom. Building dams and reservoirs can compensate for too much and too little moisture precipitation in our local area, thus turning floods into stored water to be used when water is scarce. With the added benefit of ideal recreation recrea-tion facilities and the possibility for hydroelectric generation to supplement supple-ment our increasing energy demands, we can see why the state is willing to bond for $50 million to build reclamation reclama-tion projects and not wait for the federal government to fund these important im-portant but expensive projects. We are fortunate indeed, to have the present reservoir systems on our watersheds and we hope that future projects can be dispatched with all expedience. ex-pedience. The sooner they are built the more moisture will be caught to be used for agriculture, municipal, industry and energy developments in our growing grow-ing area. |
