Show Vernal Glenda Landon .8i417 A Jeff Johnsons ski Switzerland Jeff and Merridy Johnson recently enjoyed a two-weeks vacation in Switzerland. They traveled with a private group of 17 from Park City. They made their headquarters at a hotel in Grindlewald, and spent most of the time skiing in that area. They also took a train trip to Berne and enjoyed shopping and sightseeing. They returned to Vernal on Feb. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Nyman and son, Smith, spend last weekend in Logan and Smithfield visiting their families. Greg's youngest brother, Mark, has been called to the Boston, Massachusetts mission; so they attended at-tended his farewell Sunday and returned home Monday. Sargent DeNile Williams, his wife Donna, and their six children who have spent the past 3M years in Germany, returned to the States on January 28. He has been serving with the Army in administration and was stationed at Worms, a short distance from Frankfurt. Frank-furt. They report it was a very beautiful area and they enjoyed living there among friendly people, but they didn't have much snow and they missed that. They are now stationed at White Sands, New Mexico. Mrs. Rachel Mills, mother of Mary Herman, is presently visiting with relatives and friends in Vallejo and San Jose, California. She is staying with her granddaughter, Mrs. Judy Strong, who is Mary Herman's daughter. She will probably be there during the remainder of the winter season. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Bowden are parents of a baby girl born Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Uintah County Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz. and is 20 inches long. She is their first child and will be given the name of Tasha Jean. Christine's mother, Mary Sorensen, of Phoenix, came Friday to help welcome her new grandchild and to assist in the home. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Anderson have spent the last two months in Apache Junction, Arizona. Helen was there to help her sister, Estella Dustin, who has been recuperating from open heart surgery. Mr. and Mrs. John Robbins went to Salt Lake City Wednesday to visit their little son, Russell, at the University Medical Center. Brenda stayed there to be with him the remainder of the week. They were able to bring him home Sunday night and he is now doing quite well. He is their seventh child and was welcomed home by four brothers and two sisters. Visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Busch during the long weekend were several of their children: Delvin and Juanita McFarlane and family of Price, Lynn and Eileen Bangerter and family of Bountiful, and Merrilee Busch of Provo, a student at Utah Technical College. On Saturday evening they had a dinner for 28 family members, including Dennis and Diane Augustus and family, and John and Darly Busch and family of Vemal. The visitors returned to their homes on Sunday and Monday. Mr. and Mrs. B.H. Stringham, who are presently living in St. George, were in Vernal over the weekend to attend the funeral of his grandson, Kary Stringham. They left Tuesday to return to St. George. Mr. and Mrs. Clair Acord and Mrs. Freda Davis, formerly of Vernal, were hereon Monday to attend the funeral of Kary Stringham. Janae Haws, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kay Haws of Bountiful, who is a student at BYU, was here for the long weekend visiting her grandfather, George E. Johnstun. The David Rust family and his mother Alta Rust left Friday afternoon for the weekend in Salt Lake City and Stockton, Utah. They visited first with Joesph Rust and family in Bountiful to observe his birthday Saturday. His youngest brother Marvin had flown there from Arizona. David's family went on to Stockton to visit Eleanor's father, Ernest Johnson. The Johnson family gathered there Sunday to commemorate his 72nd birthday. The Vernal Rusts returned home Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stephenson and Mr. and Mrs. Dale (Kathy) Snow went to Denver for the long weekend to visit Delores' son, Darius Burke and family. On Sunday they attended the testimonial for Darius' second son, Michael, who has been called to the Spanish-speaking mission in Ventura-Oxnard, Ventura-Oxnard, California. After the meeting an open house was held at the Burke home and a large crowd attended. Michael will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo on March 6. His older brother Kevin is now serving in the Sacramento, California mission. The Stephensons and Snows returned home Monday night. A baby daughter was born Saturday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Alan White in the Uintah County Hospital. She weighed 7 lbs. and is 19 inches long, and will be given the name of Alayna Lin. She has one brother, Gavin. Her grandmother, Oleta White, is assisting in the home. Enos Bennion, his wife and two daughters, Susan and Annette, visited over the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Bea Bennion. Enos is living in Brigham City and is presently employed at Thiokol. Lila Robbins has been visiting the past week with members of her family and friends in Salt Lake City. While there she also attended the funeral of her brother-in-law, Harold Chri-stofferson. Chri-stofferson. Hugo Hullinger, son of Mrs. Harold Hullinger, was in Vernal over the weekend, accompanied by his wife the former Enid Workman, to visit his mother and to attend the funeral services ser-vices for Kary Stringham. At present, Hugo is working for Univac in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Goodrich took a weeks vacation trip to visit relatives while Lloyd is convalescing from the injuries he suffered in a mine accident early in December. They went to see Gladys' three sisters, Mary and Nell Stevenson and Hazel Goodrich in Clinton, Utah. They spent three days in Logan with their daughter Angela and her two children, Dustin and Melissa. They visited their daughter, Marlene, who is working as a secretary nt the State Board of Education office in Salt Lake City, and then returned to Vernal on Sunday. Lost Saturday the Goodriches, accompanied by Malcl Hardy and Carol Hatch, drove to Provo and spent the day there. Mrs. Isabelle Colton and her daughter and son-in-law, Sherman and Mary Ellen Gulp Just returned from an eight day cruise in the Caribbean. They sailed on the Greek steamship, The Arncrikanis. They visited the Islands of St. Martin, Martinique, Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua and St. Thomas. She reported the temperature was HO to 82 degrees all the time. They returned to Salt Iikc City, Saturday, February 16 and her son-ln law brought her home Sunday. |
