Rock Springs, Wyoming's Louis Barnum, 70, defeated Utah's Preston Smith, and Michael Barnum of Wyoming downed Michael Jones of Salt Lake City in the 75 pound bout. Danny Montoya, 85 pounder from Salt Lake City, defeated Ricky Woodard of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Salt Lake City's Beto Montoya , 95, dropped Anthony Mintes of Utah due to a technical knockout. Lionel Flores, 112, of Salt Lake City downed Paul Woodard of Rock Springs, Wyoming, and Chris Montoya, 122, of Salt Lake City defeated Bobby St. Juan of Roosevelt. Bob Barnum, 125, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, toppled Danny Trujillo of Salt Lake City. Ron Pueblo, Utah, defeated Brent Jones, Utah, 125, and Dick Miller, Rock Springs, Wyoming, thumped Nadan Hosea of Salt Lake City in the 132 pound bout. Parker Scott, Utah, 147, toppled Roosevelt's Eddie Martinez, and Danny Trujillo, Rock Springs, Wyoming, downed 147 pounder Gilbert Rodriquez, Salt Lake City. Gary Gomez, Rock Springs, Wyoming, thumped John Murray, Utah, 156, and heavyweight fighter, Julio Feliciano defeated Sammy Reynolds. The fights were sponsored by Vernal Elks' Lodge 2375. The Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions has been fought without interruption since March 24, 1928. The Chicago amateur champions met fighters from New York City. The meet ended in a 8-8 draw. Under the leadership of the Arch Ward, the Golden Gloves advanced to an international in-ternational status, with winners meeting teams from all over Europe. It also plays a major role in the selection of representatives for the U.S. team in the Olympic Games.
