Show (1980 census district "office opens Thursday , During a ceremony at 11 a.m. ibruary 21, Karla Bergeson, 1980 Cen-s Cen-s District Office Manager, will of-lially of-lially open the office in Provo, from hich the 1980 Census of Population and nusing will be directed in the census Strict. This district office will be head-larters head-larters for census operations in the llowing counties: Beaver, Carbon, aggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, rand, Iron Juab, Kane, Millard, Piute, in Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Utah, Wasatch, Washington, and Wayne. With the official opening, the active phase of the census gets under way in this census district. About 480 crew leaders and census takers will be hired and trained. Detailed arrangements will be made for the enumeration of people in institutions, jails, hospitals, colleges, and places other than homes, all in preparation for April 1 when the actual enumeration begins. (Continued on Page 16) 1980 census - - (Continued from Page 1) Four days before April 1, on March 28, the Postal Service will deliver to each address a census questionnaire, which is to be filled out by answering all questions that apply to each person and to the housing. In Utah County, the fiupstionnaires bear the address, and householders are to mail them back in the postage-paid postage-paid return envelope enclosed. In the remaining counties the questionnaires bear no address, and householders are to hold them for census takers who will begin picking them up on March 31. However, all areas are alike in one respect in that some households will fall into a sample and be asked to provide more information about each person and about the housing. In places of 2.VX) population or more, one-in-six households will be in the sample. sam-ple. In areas with populations of less than 2.r00, one in every two households will fall into the sample. This large sample in less populated areas is necessary in order to provide statistically adequate data for use as the biiRis for Federal revenue sharing program allocations. Households not in the sample will receive the "short" form which has seven population questions about each person in the household and 12 housing questions about the dwelling. The Census Bureau says that having the questionnaire in the home over the weekend before it is to be mailed hack on April 1 enables the family to fill it out in privacy; also all members are likely to lie present and can provide accurate information about themselves and the housing. |
