Show DUP Camp Ft. Thornburg hold meeting MAESER SPECI AL-Camp Ft. Thornburg Daughters of the Utah Pioneers met at the home of Theo Lind for their February meeting. Captain Lind conducted. Invocation was by Lucelle Rich. "America the Beautiful" was sung, with Betty Bowden leading. Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was lead by Theo Lind. Minutes were read and approved. Roll call was by secretary Chloe Woodward, and announcements an-nouncements and business by Captain Lind. A history was given by Betty Bowden of her great grandfather, John Tidwell. "Polly Wolly Doodle" was sung. Lesson of locality histories was given by Elva McCamie. The history of Granite, Salt Lake County began 1859 with the opening of the quarry, cutting the large blocks for the tempie and the saw and shingle mills. In 1863, little Cottonwood mining district was organized at Alta and in 1867 the Alta branch of the Denver & Kio Grande Railway. Calder's Park the first pioneer pleasure resort of Utah, later became Nibley Park and was made into a golf course and country club. The settlement of Nevada. 1865. called call-ed the Muddy Mission due to the unpredictable un-predictable Virgin River. St. Thomas, lasted until 1 9:59.
