Show The Paulist Fathers of New York have began a crusade against the vice which prevails to an alarnjing extent in t!he residential quarters which surround sur-round their Church. This crusade will, in a measure at least, probably meet with the endorsement of Tammany Hail because it is an indirect attack on the 0o-called Raines law, which has always been opposed by the Democrats ef New York. If the Paul is ts have begun this work in earnest,' they will, undoubtedly, acccmpllnh. much good. Disreputable saloons and the like can be closed if an intelligent effort to do sn is made. We trust, however, that the Paulist Fathers will not be deceived with the idea that the "social evil" can be eradicated erad-icated by a change cf location. |
